Cleaning and cleanliness of transport containers

Safety, hygiene and transparency

ENFIT develops international standards for the cleaning of transport containers and for the compliance with transport hygiene, digitization, traceability, transparency and safety in the supply chain - upstream and downstream.

Chemicals, food and animal feed are transported around the world at all stages of production as liquids or bulk goods, unpacked, in transport containers. Transport containers are: e.g. road tankers, silo vehicles, tank containers, railway wagons, IBCs, etc. The transported products are, for example, flour, milk powder, sugar or chocolate, feed raw materials and feed, or alkalis, acids, polymers, toxic, corrosive or explosive substances. End products are transported in packaged or partially packaged units on pallets or trolleys in refrigerated or box vehicles, in reefer containers or box containers for overseas transport.

Transport is about more than just moving from "A" to "B". It is also about safe loading, unloading and the suitability of a transport container. It is also about protecting the people involved. Product safety and protection of the environment and nature. These requirements apply in particular to the transport of dangerous substances (hazardous goods ADR), since improper handling can lead to exothermic reactions, poisoning or other damage. Since transport containers are used for different products, they must be carefully cleaned after unloading.

Cleaning staions should be able to clean transport containers in such a way that the next load is not contaminated and damaged. In the case of food and feed, special transport hygiene and safety requirements must be taken into account. (See ENFIT Guideline - Transport of unpackaged raw materials and food/feed in transport containers).
